Medium Format Film vs. 35mm : Acadia National Park Style Shoot
Back to Acadia for the third and final styled elopement on film. I had a LOT of time to play this day and rolls to shoot so I went all out. I mainly used the Mamiya 645 Super with Portra 800 and 400 120 film, along with Kodak Portra 400 35mm and Fujifilm Provia 100 in my Pentax K1000.
The major things I noticed were the way the Portra 800 really warmed up those direct sun photos when overexposed by a stop.

All direct sun with Portra 800 on the Mamiya 645. WARMWARMWARM. Love these colors.

Y'all. This is expired film. Vista 100. Got it on E-bay. WTF? BEAUTIFUL!! Check out how crisp the reds are. Such a difference from the warm tones of the portra. I got these ones overscanned, as I have been doing lately with my 35mm film. Makes it easier to tell the difference between the 120 and the 35mm. Also it looks hella cool in collages. I still cannot get over these images.

These frames with the 24 mm really show how lens and light can effect the colors. The wider lens is much cloudier but the scope you get is wide. I had Portra in this camera and was intentionally trying for some motion shots.

Above are some more crispy 35mm scans with the Portra 400

Portra does what the name suggests! Great skin tones, and amazing color. I am amazed at the greens and reds in these portraits and detail shots.

Manual focusing with a big lens while people are moving is a BIATCH. I still got some dope shots, but it was tricky and many of these frames came out blurry. All Portra 400 on the Mamiya.
ALL IN ALL: I think I will be hauling the giant Mamiya along for couple’s portraits and keeping the 35mms as my go to action cameras/group portraits. The meium format give a beautiful creaminess to the images while I LOVE what the Pentax did with the 35mm film.
